Stow West School Museum
2008

The Stow West School was built in 1825 and served local students until 1903. The building was lovingly restored by the Stow West School Society in the 1970's. It is now kept open by the Stow Historical Commission. Special visits may be arranged by contacting us.

Programs are 3:00-5:30 PM the second Sunday of each of the summer months. All are sponsored by the Stow Historical Commission with significant support from the Stow Cultural Council and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Intergenerational programs include children's crafts and light refreshments. While programs are free, donations are very much appreciated.

JUNE 8:
One Hundred Years Ago Today -- Learn what life was like in the beginning of the 20th century. Lew Halprin will showcase his collection of antiques, including a working gramophone. Enjoy seeing some of the things that people had surrounding them in 1908 and hearing the music they enjoyed.
JULY 13:
For the Children’s Sake -- Explore what it was like to be a child in earlier times. See the old toys, clothing and books and games children enjoyed. Toe-tapping music with a touch of the whimsical will be provided by Ed and Louise Heztler of the group October Rose.

AUGUST 10:
Ice Cream Social -- Enjoy ice cream while you listen to music provided by the Stow Minutemen. Learn about summer activities in the past, especially related to the colonial period, when ice cream was a rarity.

SEPTEMBER 14:
Back to School -- Our costumed school teacher, Jennifer Hofmann, will make us “toe the line” as we learn about what it was like in past years to attend a one-room schoolhouse. Complete with a spelling bee.

The Stow West School Museum is located at the corner of Harvard and Hiley Brook Roads in Stow.
